Imagine you were just born. Your mother kisses your face and you see the world for the first time. Imagine having a member of another species take you away from her, lock you up and forcefully, artificially, impregnate you. Ten months later they steal your new born baby from you immediately after you give birth. While your baby cries for you, they lock him in a cage so he can’t move. This is so that he stays tender and frail for when they kill him shorty after. If your baby happened to be a girl, they would have taken her, tied her up, and forced her to produce babies and milk just like you. In both cases, parts of their skull would be removed without pain killers. Meanwhile, you are put in a small cage where you can barely move and hooked up to a breast pump machine. You are forced to produce 4.5 times more breast milk than you naturally would for your infant. You are forced to give birth over and over again. Every time your baby is ripped from your arms. No matter how much you scream, cry, beg or plead, you will never see your babies again. After only four years of life, you will then be violently killed, so that this other stronger, more powerful, more important species can cook and eat your flesh. Imagine that.

This is what goes on every single day in the dairy industry. This is where our milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, coffee creamer, etc., all come from.

Rape, kidnapping, torture, confinement and murder. This is the harsh reality. What the fuck kind of world do we live in? And in the name of what? Satisfying our tastebuds?

We have been taught to eat blindly and to comply quietly. We are satisfying our selfish wants and completely disregarding what these animals went through, or even worse, not even acknowledging it. There is a solution to this horrifying truth and it has brought me a kind of happiness and fulfillment that I didn’t even know was possible. Veganism.

I have actually found I eat a wider variety of foods since being vegan and I have experienced flavours I didn’t even know existed. I eat way more of the foods that actually make me healthy and I have so much energy. I feel lighter, happier, more satisfied after eating and my health problems have lessened DRASTICALLY. I am so much more conscious of what I eat, which is something I wasn’t even thinking about for the first 21 years of my life. There are so many tools in our community to help people who are starting the transition into a vegan lifestyle and I urge you to open yourself up to the possibility of living and eating differently.

There is no excuse or justification for the cruelty that takes place. When we chose to eat animals and their by-products, we are supporting a world of hate, selfishness, fear and pain. We are taking something that was never ours to begin with: the animals right to live. It’s not complicated. What you support will continue. By consuming animals, milk and/or eggs, you are supporting immense suffering. Suffering that is beyond belief…blood curdling, heart wrenching, screaming at the top of their lungs suffering. Just because this murderous industry hides this suffering – and they hide it quite well I might add, that doesn’t make it any less real.

As you can probably tell, the anger and frustration I feel about this suffering is beyond words. I would save every single crying and bleeding baby, mother and father if I had the power. Sadly, this is impossible, but we can make massive shifts together. By making the slightest changes in what we put on our plates, we can save lives. Think of how beautiful and wonderful that is. A baby cow will stay with her mother, where she belongs, and she will experience love, happiness, freedom, joy. She will know how it feels to walk on grass, to smell fresh air, and to die naturally at the age of 20. A baby male chick will get to live to see his second day of life, and his sisters beak will not be cut off and her eggs will not be stolen. A baby pig will live in a world where there is no gestation crates, just comfy hay beds where he will sleep peacefully and wake to find his friend rooster having breakfast beside him. This pig will have the chance to grace us humans with his sensitivity and INTELLIGENCE.

I know the suffering these animals actually go through is a hard reality to face, it’s still extremely hard for me to face it too. Please take a moment to be selfless. Please take a moment to consider that you don’t see what really goes on. Think about your mother and what she means to you, what she has done for you. Imagine she was treated the way a mother cow is treated. Imagine your child was treated the way a baby chick, cow or pig is treated. Imagine a world where the roles were reversed and another species had control over US. Imagine if we were seen not as human beings who have rights and intrinsic value. Imagine our bodies were food, our skin a piece of clothing, our forced cooperation a source of entertainment. Imagine we were objects to experiment on and torture. Imagine we were owned by this species. How would we want them to treat us? With grace, mercy, respect, love and kindness. Being the “smartest” species doesn’t mean we have the right to own or control other species. What we inflict on animals is the highest form of speciesism and it is wrong. If people were honest with themselves, they would realize that animals are more INTELLIGENT, beautiful, special, gentle, kind, understanding and sentient than a lot of humans.. we have much to learn from them. They are innocent creatures who have love to give. They just want to exist. Let us all exist in love and harmony, once and for all.

Start to think about what you are putting in your mouth, into your body, into your soul. There are five thousand million other delicious, wonderful, nutritious foods you can eat – foods that didn’t have a mother, a face, or feelings. Lets give every creature on this earth the same fighting chance. Lets help them, care for them and treat them with love and respect. Or at the very least, lets leave them the fuck alone.
